July 29th: Lawn Care Techniques for Watershed Stewardship
Employing proper lawn care techniques can have a huge impact on the health of our watershed! When mowing the lawn, it’s best to set your mower blade height to 3 inches. Keeping your grass long helps roots stay strong and keeps the soil cool. It also helps the soil retain nutrients, reducing your need for fertilizers! Also, keeping your lawn clippings on your lawn to decompose, as opposed to bagging them up and sweeping them on to the street, adds nutrients to your lawn and also reduces yard waste from ending up in street gutters and ditches.
