GWC Attends MWCC’s Annual Meeting in Helena

The Gallatin Watershed Council was honored to attend the Montana Watershed Coordination Council’s Annual Meeting this past Tuesday, January 21st.

GWC attended MWCC’s Annual Meeting as a Watershed Partner. We heard from a multitude of speakers from diverse fields of study; discussions ranged from community responses to the oil and gas industry, to roundtable discussions on channel migration zone mapping easements and LiDAR resources, among other topics.

Our very own Watershed Coordinator, Holly Hill, spoke on a panel with other watershed coordinators throughout Montana. Each shared insight into their invaluable work, discussing their accomplishments and the challenges that often precede such successes.

During the Agency Directors panel, the Directors of NRCS, DNRC, DEQ, Montana FWP and the Montana DOC each gave updates on their respective organizations, followed by a discussion moderated by the Watershed Coordinators.

It was very inspiring to be in a room filled with individuals and organizations committed to the health and vitality of Montana’s watersheds and to the communities that depend on them.

MWCC provides vital funding and capacity support to GWC and to the rest of the watershed community through their Watershed Fund, trainings and resources. They also support the Big Sky Watershed Corps, a program which directly enhances the capacity of local watershed groups like GWC.

Our collaborative work at GWC would not be successful without our partnership with MWCC. We are so grateful for our lasting relationship with MWCC and with the watershed community as a whole, and can’t wait for the October Watershed Symposium in Butte!
