Policy

Our Approach

The Gallatin Watershed Council engages in policy and education initiatives that are guided by the Watershed Approach. We prioritize issues that have community led solutions, scientific support, and inclusivity. In all of our work, we strive for consensus. Our policy goals are to educate the public and decision makers on key issues related to water quality, water availability, and land use so that policies and plans reflect diverse stakeholder needs and interests. Learn more about the plans and policies we’ve been engaging in below.

  • Gallatin County Future Land Use Map & Housing Strategy

The goal of this project is to establish land use designations that are reflective of the goals and policies in the Growth Policy and a comprehensive, balanced, and equitable housing strategy that identifies opportunities for Gallatin County to address growing housing challenges.

  • City of Bozeman Stormwater Facilities Plan Update

The City of Bozeman is developing a Stormwater Facilities Plan update to improve existing stormwater policies, plan future capital infrastructure investments, and improve collaboration with other City projects. The updated Stormwater Facilities Plan will help ensure the Stormwater Division continues to protect public safety, improve water quality, and comply with state and federal regulations.

  • City of Bozeman Unified Development Code Update

The UDC sets forth regulations around what kinds of development can occur in which areas through development standards and zoning districts. The goal for this update is to improve usability of the UDC and update regulations to accommodate growth while meeting community goals in our Community Plan, Climate Plan and others.
