May River Cleanup Sets a New Record!

This past Saturday, the Gallatin Watershed Council (GWC) partnered with Bozeman Brewing, Voormi and Altitude Realty to host a May River Cleanup. On Saturday morning, teams picked up trash and treasures throughout the Lower Gallatin Watershed.

Just over 100 community members picked up 1,213 pounds of trash across 8 sites, breaking previous cleanup records of the total weight of trash collected for a cleanup. We are so proud and thankful of our community for working together for clean water! All of our hard work called for a celebration at Story Mill Park with food, beer, and prizes.

When cleaning up fishing access sites, parks and other recreation areas, some unique items can be found. The winner of the “strangest thing” went to the person who found a rubber chicken wearing just one earring. Another person’s trash is another person’s treasure… But in this case it was removed from our waterways and disposed of properly!

A huge thank you to our friends at Republic Services for donating dumpsters and collecting trash for the May River Cleanup!
