2023 Pooper Scooper Troopers

Holy Dog Poop.

On April 21st 2023, in partnership with Run Dog Run, 406 Pooper Troopers, and Outside Kind, GWC hosted its annual Bozeman Dog Poop Cleanup Event!

Over 55 volunteers scooped poop around 8 beloved trails and parks in Bozeman. These volunteers got down and dirty and scooped up 75, 5-gallon buckets worth of dog poop! This equates to about 375 gallons of dog poop removed from out watershed.

Dog poop can be detrimental to our watershed because dogs eat nutrient rich food produced by factories that can increase the amount of nutrients in our waterways. It can also contain pathogens and bacteria, such as E.coli, that can cause health problems if it contaminates the water that people drink or recreate in.

Overall, we just wanted to thank the community for enthusiastically scooping dog poop on a Friday afternoon! In just a few hours, as a collective, we made a huge impact.

Now you may be wondering… where the heck did we take all the poo? Valid question. After the waste is collected, it eventually ends its life cycle in a landfill - away from the water resources that we rely on for drinking, native habitat, and recreation!

Please remember that when you are out for a stroll with your pup to do your duty and pick up the doodie - and to remember to dispose of those bags properly.
