Gratitude for Gallatin Watershed Business Stewards

In 2022, Business Stewards were an inspiration to the Gallatin Watershed Council (GWC) with their sustainable practices and engagement throughout the community. Businesses participated in many special ways: they engaged in the City of Bozeman’s water conservation rebate incentives, led their own teams for watershed cleanups, organized Watershed 101 lessons with employees, worked with GWC to install a rain garden, and many gave generous donations of food, drinks, gear and finances to fuel and appreciate volunteers at annual events. Thank you!

The goal of the Gallatin Watershed Business Steward program is to mobilize businesses and their customers to participate in watershed stewardship and to elevate water awareness in the Lower Gallatin Watershed.

An outstanding 2022 Business Steward has been Highline Adventures. Highline Adventures is a business that implements sustainable tourism practices and owns several hotels, campgrounds and vacation rentals around Bozeman. GWC partnered with Highline Adventures to install a rain garden onsite at their Baymont by Wyndham hotel. A river channel was designed, sod removed, native and drought tolerant shrubs and grasses were planted, and rocks shoveled to complete the garden! Benefits of urban rain gardens include using less water than sod, providing habitat for pollinators and filtering stormwater runoff. Furthermore, when GWC contributed to the development of visitor volunteer kits to educate tourists on best-practices in the area, Highline Adventure locations housed kits to share with their guests. In addition to the amazing support and enthusiasm from Highline Adventures, the rain garden and visitor kits project was made possible through partnership with Prime Incorporated and the Montana Association of Conservation District’s Water Quality Education and Outreach Mini-Grant.

We could not make events a success and new creative projects happen without the support of the following businesses:

Thank you all for your positive contributions to the Lower Gallatin Watershed!

Business Stewards make an annual financial contribution to GWC to support our work and our mission and often join GWC in volunteer events. In return, GWC promotes stewardship actions to the larger community, connects businesses with the City of Bozeman’s commercial rebate program, and works with businesses to brainstorm new and impactful stewardship actions. Join us in 2023 for an engaging year of stewardship!
