Volunteer & Get Involved

Community members are at the heart of everything we do at the Gallatin Watershed Council. Each year, hundreds of people like you roll up their sleeves to care for Gallatin Valley’s rivers through hands-on stewardship and civic engagement. From riverbanks to breweries to city hall, there’s a place for you in our work. It takes a village—we couldn’t do it without you!

Volunteer opportunities run from April through October, with both one-time and season-long ways to get involved, whatever your schedule or skillset. Ready to make a commitment? Join one of our core volunteer crews:

  • River R.A.T.s (Restoration Action Team) – Help with restoration projects throughout the season.

  • Gallatin Stream Teams – Monitor local streams and track watershed health.

We also host free educational tours. From behind-the-scenes visits to drinking water and wastewater treatment facilities, to riparian walks and conversations about agriculture’s role in the valley, these tours offer something for everyone—students, residents, and curious community members alike. Come away with a deeper understanding of the systems that keep our watershed healthy.

Start by filling out the Volunteer & Events Interest Form below to get on our email list. Don’t forget to sign the volunteer waiver before you join us in the field. We can’t wait to see you out there!
